On Cancer national launch

Watch the recording the national launch of On Cancer, where our expert panel discussed the future of cancer care in the UK and worldwide.

1 in 2 people born in the UK since 1960 will have cancer in their lifetime, but thanks to advancements in cancer care and treatments, more people now survive their disease than die from it. Our new publication offers academic insight and policy recommendations on cancer's prevention, diagnosis, and treatment - including how we integrate new technologies and treatments in cancer care pathways, to improve outcomes and quality of life.

On Thursday, 3 March, Policy@Manchester hosted a national launch event for On Cancer, at Church House in Westminster. We heard from an expert panel of academics and clinicians, on a wide range of topics, including;

• The role of AI and algorithms in improving diagnoses and outcomes for cancer patients, and the role of regulators and policymakers in setting clear standards around safety and transparency
• How advanced radiotherapies could target cancer cells while leaving healthy cells untouched, and the need for the NHS, medicines regulators, and researchers to come together in a reciprocal dialogue on how best to implement these technologies
• How Manchester is pioneering the 'hub-and-spoke' model of cancer care, to ensure the most disadvantaged are not left behind
• International research collaborations, and the vast benefits they can bring in terms of trade, healthcare, skills training, and more - for both the UK, and our partners abroad
